As previously mentioned, people will first book air tickets unaware of the visa consequences, our client ended up bearing a loss of approximately 60,000/- for flight tickets (two people-couple were traveling). That couple was my friend’s cousin they were traveling for their honeymoon to Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur, they directly called me from Chennai Airport asking help from me, as they were stopped by Sri Lankan Airlines at Chennai Airport.
I asked them to send the flight tickets and the reason why Authorities have stopped them. They told me the ticket routing which we had booked online is not eligible for us to travel on an eNTRI note. They had booked their flight tickets online and got their Malaysia eNTRI note done on their own.
They had made separate tickets for domestic and international, their route was Mumbai to Chennai on Indigo, Chennai to Colombo on Sri Lankan Airlines, Colombo to Kuala Lumpur again on Sri Lankan Airlines & Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi on Air Asia and same way while returning, but have 2 nights stop in Kuala Lumpur for Sightseeing. After going through their tickets I told them the same thing that airline won’t allow you to travel as eNTRI Note has a restriction of their entry and exit points, with valid eNTRI Note you can either travel to Malaysia by direct flight from India or you can transit through Singapore, Thailand or Brunei.
Apart from these countries, Indians are not allowed to enter Malaysia from any other entry point, as they were entering from Colombo they were stopped. They requested the superiors of Sri Lankan Airlines to travel on their own risk, but still, they did not allow them to travel because Airline staff were very sure that with this route and eNTRI Note Malaysian Immigration would surely deport them.
Their Flight departure time was around 2030 from Chennai, they tried all their luck but eventually, they were not allowed to board the flight. They asked me for a suggestion about the travel, as they were going on a Honeymoon trip and did not want to ruin the tour. I wanted to make sure they don’t encounter a huge loss, so It took me an hour to calculate and how we can minimize the amount of loss, they first asked me whether they can postpone their trip after 2-3 days, meanwhile they get their Malaysia E Visa done.
They were originally from Mumbai, so they had to stay 2-3 nights in the Chennai hotel which could have ended up at least a loss of INR 10,000. Malaysia E Visa would have cost them 7,300/- for two people. Their tours & hotels were already pre-booked and were starting from the very next day as they were going only for 6 days. No hotelier or tour company will rebook or cancel the trip last moment, so their entire tour could have gone on a toss.
They were very sure about their travel, but at the same time, they were helpless as it was Sunday evening and was unable to get the appropriate required help. After considering the entire situation I suggested they book on Air Asia direct flight which departs around 2330 from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur costing them around Rs 30,000/- per head. They had only two options, either to give up their trip or bear a loss, since they were very sure about their Travel, they asked to book on Air Asia direct Flight. They did not get any refund for their Flight tickets of Sri Lankan Airlines as it was last minute in-voluntary cancellation (a mistake by the client).
