US Visa Agent in Mumbai: Applying Through the BKC Consulate

Applying for a US visa from Mumbai means two appointments, not one: biometrics at a VFS Offsite Facilitation Centre, then your interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Bandra Kurla Complex.

Fly For Holidays prepares your DS-160, books both slots and runs your interview practice. IATA-accredited, Kandivali West, open all seven days.

Most Mumbai applicants need a non-immigrant visa, and the category decides everything that follows — the fee, the documents, and how hard the interview will be.

   Visa      Class  Who it’s forValidity
   Tourist       B2 Holiday 10 Years
  Business       B1 Business 10 Years
Student       F1 Student As per Course

Most people who come to us asking for a “tourist visa” are issued a combined B-1/B-2. If you are unsure which applies, tell us why you are travelling and we will tell you the category — that conversation costs nothing.

The step most first-time applicants miss is that you attend two separate appointments on two different days, at two different addresses. Getting that wrong is the most common reason a Mumbai application stalls before it even reaches an officer.

Step 1: Complete the DS-160

The DS-160 is the online non-immigrant visa application. It is long, it is unforgiving, and it cannot be meaningfully corrected once submitted — an error usually means starting again with a new confirmation number. Keep the ten-digit barcode number safe; everything downstream references it.

Step 2: Pay the MRV fee

The MRV is the non-refundable visa application fee, paid before you can schedule anything. It is payable whether or not your visa is approved.

Step 3: Book both appointments

Through your account on the official scheduling portal you book the OFC appointment and the consular interview. Book them in the right order, with enough of a gap — we cover the mechanics in detail in our US visa appointment scheduling guide.

Step 4: Your OFC appointment — biometrics

At the Offsite Facilitation Centre a VFS Global operator takes your fingerprints and photograph. It is short and administrative; there is no interview. Carry your passport, the DS-160 confirmation page and your appointment letter.

Step 5: Your interview at the Consulate, BKC

The interview happens at the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai in Bandra Kurla Complex. Expect airport-style security, no electronics, and a queue. The interview itself is usually short — often only a few questions — and the consular officer decides on the spot.

Step 6: Passport collection

If approved, your passport is retained and returned with the visa foil to your chosen collection point or by courier. Track it through the portal.

Yes, if you qualify for the Interview Waiver — widely called the drop-box. It applies to certain renewals rather than first-time applicants, and it is considerably faster because you never attend an interview.

Eligibility rules for the Interview Waiver change, and they have changed more than once in recent years.

If you are renewing, send us a photograph of the visa page in your old passport and we will tell you within the day whether drop-box is open to you.

The processing itself is quick. The wait is for an appointment, and that is what you should plan around.

Current appointment wait time at the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai:  for visitor visas, more than 365 days

The consulate’s own list is short. What actually decides the outcome is the supporting evidence you bring to demonstrate strong ties to India.

 Required Strongly Recommended
Original Passport Bank statements, last six months
DS-160 confirmation page Income tax returns, last two to three years
MRV fee payment receipt Employment letter or business proof
 Appointment confirmation letters Property documents
Photograph to US specification (Only For Visa Renewals) Travel itinerary and accommodation
Previous passports with old US visas Invitation letter, if visiting family

Students and work applicants carry additional documents specific to their category — the I-20 for F-1, the petition approval for H-1B.

Most refusals from India are issued under section 214(b): the officer was not persuaded the applicant would return home. It is not a comment on your character, and it is not permanent — you can reapply. But reapplying without changing anything usually produces the same result.

A separate outcome is 221(g), which means the application is incomplete or in administrative processing. That is a pause, not a refusal.
