How to Apply For The Schengen Tourist Visa For Indians?

 

  • The Schengen Visa for Indians is all based on your documentation and proper selection of the country from where you plan to apply. The next step will be the selection of an appropriate category for the visa you need to apply. Schengen visa is an offline process wherein form is filled up online/handwritten but submission and biometrics take place at respective VFS centers.
  • Schengen Tourist/Visitor visa also includes meeting family & friends.
  • Passports with remarks are not accepted by certain consulates.

 

Eligibility for applying for Schengen Tourist Visa

 

  • You must be holding a passport with the validity of 6 months on arrival in any of the Schengen country
  • You must be able to support the finances while in the Schengen countries and able to prove your strong finance in the home country.
  • You need to prove your purpose of visit to all the Schengen countries and return to your home country.

 

Procedure for the Schengen Tourist Visa application

 

  • The first step will be to start with the online application form wherever applicable. While starting with the process online form you need to have certain details such as personal, employment, and travel plans, and invitee details if applicable as this all will help to complete the online form when traveling to the Schengen countries for tourism purposes or to meet family & friends.
  • The visa form for the respective country can either be downloaded or directly filled up online on the VFS website which is free of cost. The Short Term Visa/Visitor visa category is for people who intend to visit the Schengen for tourism and to meet family and friends.
  • After completion of the online form, the next step is to submit this form wherever filled directly on the respective country’s consulate website page and make sure to get it submitted and barcode to be generated.
  • The next step will be making an appointment on the VFS website of the country where you will be submitting the documents. Certain VFS centers may ask for the VFS fees online while taking an appointment which can be paid through Debit/Credit Card. On making that payment you have successfully generated an appointment. By filling up the name, passport number, and category of the visa you can make the appointment. You need to carry the print of the appointment letter while visiting the center.
  • The next step will be collecting all the required documents as per the checklist of the country where you are applying On visiting the VFS center you need to submit all the documents. On successful completion of submitting the documents, you will be guided for biometrics. After biometrics, you need to make the payment and a receipt will be generated with the unique reference which will be used for further communication on the status of the application and collection of the passport.  After this, you need to wait around for 10-12 days to get the visa done or as per the country, you have applied for the visa. You will be intimated through the mail, message or even you can check on the VFS website or call and check with the VFS center of the respective country.

How earlier can I apply for the Schengen Visit Visa?
You can apply 90 days before the intended date of travel for any Schengen country
How long can I stay in the Schengen Nations with a valid visa?
You can stay for the maximum according to the dates mentioned on the visa.
Is travel insurance a mandatory document while applying for the Schengen visa?
Yes, Travel Insurance is a mandatory document for applying for a Schengen visa. While booking insurance it is advisable to have travel insurance for 2 days extra apart from the returning date of your home country.
Do I need to have confirmed Air Tickets & Hotel Bookings while applying for the Schengen visa?
Yes, Certain countries do require confirmed Air Tickets, as well as internal travel tickets too & Hotel Bookings, also must be confirmed. However, do not make any non-refundable bookings.
Can I reapply if my Schengen visa gets rejected?
Yes, you can reapply immediately once your Schengen visa is rejected. However, while reapplying make sure to submit all the necessary documents which if mentioned as insufficient on the rejection letter and you were not able to furnish while applying. Also, take the proper guidance of the travel agent for the smooth visa processing.
Are the Consulate and VFS Charges refunded in case of Schengen Visa rejection?
No, Consulate charges and VFS charges are not refundable in case of the Schengen visa getting rejected.
Is there any express service available for the Schengen Visa?
No, there is no such express service available for the Schengen visa therefore it is advisable to apply at least 20 days in advance before your intended travel date.
Can I travel any of the Schengen countries with the visa of one Schengen nation?
Yes, you can travel any of the 26 Schengen nations provided you have a valid visa for any one country

Where to apply?

 

Once you are ready with all the documentation, and appointment letters, on the scheduled appointment day you need to visit the VFS center of the country where your appointment is booked. You need to carry all the documents while visiting the center. Make sure to reach at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

 

How to check the status online?

 

  • Once you have submitted your application at the VFS center you need to wait for around 8-10 days. Later you can either check online on the VFS website, can call to VFS center or even receive a message if you have opted for that service by paying nominal charges. It can be checked through the reference number which is there on the receipt you were given on paying the consulate fees on the day of the appointment.
  • You can either collect it personally from the center of submission or opt for the courier service by paying charges for the same and certain countries VFS centers also allow the travel agent to collect the passport by giving the authority letter. On the collection day, you need to carry Original Receipt, and one original government ID proof and the Xerox of the same.

 

Points to Remember

 

  • All the details filled in the online/handwritten form must be true and correct.
  • Documents submitted for processing the visa application must be genuine. Fake, wrong or Misleading Documents may lead to refusal of the visa.
  • Mistakes in the form may cause a delay in the processing of the application, to avoid such delay take proper guidance and advise before applying for the visa.
  • Rejection of the visa may cause a problem in the future for applying the Schengen Visa as well as any other visa. Hence, it becomes necessary to give the correct details to the best of your knowledge.
